History

After entering Beleriand at Morgoth's bidding, Ulfang and his sons joined the service of Caranthir.[1] Their purpose was to eventually betray the Elves, which they did in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. They turned against their allies, attacking them in the rear. Ulwarth was slain by the sons of Bór, who had stayed loyal to the sons of Fëanor.[2]

Etymology

Ulwarth was probably not his true name, as it seems to be Sindarin for "Ugly Betrayer": ul- ("ugly") and the lenited form of gwarth ("betrayer").[3]

Other versions of the legendarium

In the appendix of The Lost Road it states that Ulwarth (then called Ulwar) was born in the year 130.[4]
