Undertowers was a dwelling of Hobbits in the Westmarch during the Fourth Age. It was located near the White Towers.
It was at Undertowers that Sam's daughter Elanor Gardner settled with Fastred of Greenholm around S.R. 1462. Thus the Fairbairn Family, the hereditary Wardens of Westmarch was founded.[1]
Undertowers was one of the three places of the Shire with the largest libraries and collections of historical documents, the others being Brandy Hall and Great Smials. Its library contained the Red Book of Westmarch, chronicling the War of the Ring and the Elder Days.[2]
