Hello. I am Eldorion, a Tolkien fan who's interested in online encyclopedias (not just about Tolkien) who wanted to try to help improve one that is about something I know a bit about.
Name
My name is not a misspelling of Eldarion (Aragorn and Arwen's son), but is the name of a role-playing character I used to have on a Tolkien roleplaying site. It means either "son of the star-land" (Numenor) or "son of the elf-land" ("El" can mean either). Even though the character is now defunct I maintain the username on a number of sites.
Background
I first read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings several years ago, after the movies came out but before I saw them. I later read The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, much of The History of Middle-earth, and The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien. I enjoy reading and learning about Middle-earth very much.
The Movies
I am rather critical of a number of changes made by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens to The Lord of the Rings, and I feel like they lack an understanding of the story in several places (including the Dead Men of Dunharrow and the Grey Havens. I also think that the films could have been improved as movies. Nonetheless, I am still a fan of the movies (just not as adaptations), and have watched all three very long Extended Editions multiple times.
I identify as a Purist and have written a number of essays on the matter
Website
In addition to the aforementioned Purism essays, I have also written about Lore and humour. These essays are hosted by WordPress.com at my website: Eldorion.com.
