Welcome to Amroth/2012's talk page.

LOTRO characters

Two things, really:-

  1. I delinked things like "Narmaleth", "Edhelion" and "Duilond" because there was clearly no intention to create these pages; "Narmaleth" in particular has been sitting as a redlink for three years, which I think is completely unacceptable.
  2. I don't think listing that someone has grey hair when the image immediately above clearly shows that anyone is tenable. I think there's already an issue vis-a-vis the length of infobox in relation to the length of article for most of these characters, and I don't want to see that made worse (which is why I have limited the width of it). --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:37, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I'll try to create as few long-time red links as possible. I'll create an article about Edhelion somewhere this year. --Amroth 16:55, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Moving files

When moving a file, please untick the box "Leave a redirect behind" as this doesn't leave a redirect behind for me to delete! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 17:25, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Uploading Images

Is it possible you could pop into chat sometime this evening? I was hoping to chat to you about some of the stuff you've uploaded. Thanks! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:03, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Certainly. --Amroth 20:06, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Translations

I've tried to give some possible answers to your questions on Elvish translations here. Perhaps more knowledgeable people will now feel more tempted to offer their help! ;-) --Morgan 16:04, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Translating placenames and personal names has been a hobby of mine for a while, and maybe still is. I kinda disagree with your suggestion; UNDU suggests "going down" or "lower than X", not "low-lying". I would pick something with N. cofn, "deep, low-lying". I would also, for purely esthetic purposes, change the word order (a la Pays Bas instead of Netherlands). I'm not entirely sure on how to properly pluralize cofn, but I think *i Ndŷr Gufn or *Dôr Gofn are both closest to being correct. As for Leo... Do you want a translation for "Belgian Lion", "Netherlandish Lion" or "Dutch (theodisc) Lion"? --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 17:36, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Good thinking, Ederchil! Would you mind if I post your suggestions on the Plaza (in order to enrich the discussion), or do you have your own account? --Morgan 19:16, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Don't have an account, go ahead. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:54, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your ideas, Morgan and Ederchil.
Ederchil: I would prefer a translation of "Lion of the Netherlands" (in the sense of this). --Amroth 13:54, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your help

Hello Amroth, I am speaching on the behalf of Sociedade de Tolkien Brasileira(or Brazilian Tolkien Society), could you help us to place an external link to our youtube channel? (http:///www.youtube.com/stbtolkien) also I would like to ask you one thing, since WIKIs are only for information porpouse and not personal, political and any other kind of information and does not take "sides" could you consider take a look at this publication it has unreliable and untruth information about us, that is why we have subscribed to your Wiki and edited our own information and links. The page is http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Conselho_Branco,_Sociedade_Tolkien

Just like you have done to our page, so it will have only clean design, and information about the society and not links to personal opinions, foruns, or even lies.

Oh and how can we upload our official trademark?

Regards, Leandro Schwass Unsigned comment by Stbtolkien (talk • contribs).

Firstly, welcome to Tolkien Gateway Leandro.
After looking at the article I see that a link to the youtube channel has already been added.
You can upload images by this page (you can also find a link under Toolbox at the leftside).
Personally, I don't have much knowledge about Tolkien Societies. Could you please specify what information is incorrect. The information on Conselho Branco, Sociedade Tolkien seems to be good, but it needs to be sourced. I will add a {{fact}}-template and ask User:Morgan (the creator of the page) if he can take a look in the page and provide sources. Personally, I think the information that you added to The Brazilian Tolkien Society could stay at the article if sources are provided. But you have to discuss that with User:Ederchil (who removed the information).
I hope, this helps you.
Sincerely, Amroth 16:34, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you so much for the information and your kind reply and help. Concerning the specific information is incorrect...on the Conselho branco Wiki Page, they said we were founded in 2000 but it is not true, also that they had the same name of our society, wich is impossible since we are up since 1997 and our name is a registered trademark since 1999 here in Brasil. I think that the information removed from our webpage was not necessary since it only said s few words about how we get here and etc. once Conselho Branco said unreliable things and still has that text on their page, I think since we were only talking things abobut our selves, it could be let there the way it was on our first edition, what you think? also Ederchil did not said why he did that. Who else can know better about ourselves then our selves is not it? lol Once again thank you for your kindness :) Unsigned comment by Stbtolkien (talk • contribs).

Everything is ok now. once more thank you for correcting and helping us with our page, and correcting and making more fair the information on the other Wiki Page of our friend society Conselho Branco. This place is a fair place! Congratulation! and Ty :) - Yours, Leandro Unsigned comment by Stbtolkien (talk • contribs).
I'm glad to hear that it is correct now :)
Though, according to the Conselho article it had to change its name because your society was founded earlier, so I don't see how it contradicts. --Amroth 17:17, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

I cant upload an image, and cant find the tool on the left column to do that. I receive a message telling me that only Administrators can do that (or something like that) when I try to click on the link you just gave me. I am So sorry to be a noob ! lol Unsigned comment by Stbtolkien (talk • contribs).

Hmm, that's strange. You should have permissions to upload files, I'm not an Adminstrator either but I can upload files. If you can give me the link of the image, I'll upload it.
PS: You can sign your posts by putting --~~~~ at the end of your message. --Amroth 19:12, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Awesome, here is the link: http://jrrtolkien.com.br/wikilogo/Logo_STB_Wiki.png the description should be like "Logomarca Sociedade de Tolkien Brasileira"
We already granted the tolkiengateway.net to access the image directly, excluding your domain from our HotLink protection.

Before uploading the image, I've one last question. On TG there is a policy that every file page has to include a license template, but I'm not sure under which licensing the trademark would fall. Could you take a look at Tolkien Gateway:File licensing templates, and tell me which licensing template I've to add. I guess it would be Permission granted, do you agree with that? Thanks! --Amroth 14:12, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
ow
Yes I think so, cuz since the trademark is ours we definitely agree to show our own logo on Tolkien Gateway, it is ok!
--Sociedade de Tolkien Brasileira 14:19, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Amroth...magic happened! lol Now we can see the UPLOAD link on the left column, I just uploaded the image see if you can do the right thing to edit that and make it fit the template or style of Tolkien Gateway please! Unsigned comment by Stbtolkien (talk • contribs).
I already expected that answer, but I had to ask for the record.
It's great to hear that you're able to upload images now :) I've edited the file page and created a file license template. --Amroth 14:39, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

lol Ok I got it! I just created the copyright page, but if you dont need that it is ok, you may delete it from Tolkien gateway, but please take a look and see if that fits what you need. Will it be visible on the STB Wiki Page? I mean the way it was designed on the copyright templates? --Sociedade de Tolkien Brasileira 14:59, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Noncanon/adaptations

Hi Amroth! In my opinion it was very good that you differentiated between the "noncanon" concepts appearing in Tolkien's books and "noncanon" concepts from adaptations. I think it was really needed.--Morgan 15:05, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

But I have one suggestion: instead of "X that appear only in Adaptations, and not in the books." (which is ambiguous - which books?), I would rather writer "X that appear only in Adaptations, and not in Tolkien's texts.", or something like that.--Morgan 15:11, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that was really necessary. It listed Eriol as a video game character!
About the description, I just copied it from the old categories. But I'll change it. --Amroth 15:15, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Birthday sentiments

+1! But you're still 16 in the text of the user page description! --Morgan 20:09, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Ik ga niet zingen. ;) --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:17, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Happy birthday to you

Thanks for the birthday wishes. :) --Amroth 11:01, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

LOTRO servers

Hello Amroth. Do you agree on removing the mention of LOTRO server names under some Portrayal in Adaptations? It doesn't really fit there, in my opinion. A server name isn't really a portrayal, you know ;-) If you think it's useful to note the different server names, perhaps it would be better with a section in the main LOTRO article.--Morgan 18:27, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

I agree. This is not a portrayal in adaptations, no more than if I named my dog "Frodo" would that be a portrayal in a adaptation (although I would have more cause to do so as my dog would be a better Frodo than a server): this is trivia and it's not needed in these articles. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 09:11, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
Firstly, sorry for the late response. Wednesday I didn't have time to replay because of a combination of school and my job. Then I was further delayed because I was ill.
I agree that server names aren't a real portrayal, instead I'll create a list in the main article. --Amroth 13:23, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Done! --Amroth 13:52, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! --Morgan 13:59, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
