Hi, what did you not like in that article's analysis? shouldn't we mention that the name can be Sindarin, and if so, we don't know the words? Temp 08:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, at first I disagreed, but with the current reword it's fine. I removed the phrase "The circumflex ^ is used by Tolkien in Sindarin extra long vowels[2], but these words have not been attested in Sindarin." because there are plenty of those in Sindarin, even with the û - Udûn, for one. But properly sourced, it's good. Note that we're still working on referencing, but we pretty much agreed on these. Keep up the work - don't be shy, go ahead and completely rewrite an article instead of adding a couple of sentences if you think it needs it. Even very minor characters like Gildor Inglorion or even Nob could have a very good article. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 09:23, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Things

How do you get those little boxes and such that say your name and have links to talk, profile, etc.? Unsigned comment by Breragor (talk • contribs).

Just click on "edit" on those pages and see the code they are composed of (some combination of {{, | and ]] etc etc) Sage 00:05, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Or go here: Help:Signatures. But keep it within the borders of sanity, please. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 08:24, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reading order

Hi again... I know new fans usually wonder about the reading order and I don't know if you ever thought about it. Now it just crossed my mind to make such an article about anyone interested. I plan to start such an article and I hope you have stuff to add. Sage 00:05, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I do have a newbie's reading order, actually. I give it occasionally on IMDb, where I'm a regular on the LotR boards.
  1. The Hobbit - purely for introductionary reasons
  2. The Lord of the Rings
  3. Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age - basically a summary of LotR from a historian's perspective
  4. The Third Age parts of Unfinished Tales (though The Drúedain and The Istari can be skipped for now)
  5. The rest of the Silmarillion
  6. The rest of Unfinished Tales
  7. The Letters
I just don't have a clue what to call such an article. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 08:18, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Elvish database

I read somewhere that the creation of a Tolkienian wiktionary was one of the ambitions of this wiki. Check out my first attempts. Sage 16:09, 5 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template

I like it. My only concern is that perhaps references are overloaded and I would point your attention to some minimalism. There is no need to see everywhere "J.R.R. Tolkien" and "J.R.R. Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien (ed.)" again and again in almost every reference. I mean people knows who wrote them. After all, the wiki is about Tolkien.
I am telling this because in a proposed guideline it was (by you?) mentioned that well-known facts need no referencing (like that Bilbo was a Hobbit). Same perhaps would apply to the References themselves.
Of course overly formality is a respected option. Sage 13:06, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It can be a bit over-the-top, of course. But my main goal with always including the author was meant for the secondary and semi-secondary works. Originally, I favoured just doing Book, "Chapter", but I think that got expanded at one of the meetings.
"Vinyar Tengwar 45, page 24" says nothing to anyone who doesn't have VT (and even to people that do). When JRRT wrote it, it must be made clear. When someone other than JRRT wrote it, that must also be made clear. Just my thoughts. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:24, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:VGC

I put in the talk page of the template while I called it VGC. Also, I put in the publisher as a way to substitute the author found on template:HM. --Pinkkeith 22:40, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I read the talk pages after I edited, and wanted to respond, but Safari left me. We don't have a standard (yet) citation. Last year, I tried to get some consensus on the matter, and we sorta formulated a couple of things, but they were shelved for a while; let's just say there was a frost in Spring, or a blight in Summer.
As for more games; for that to work, it's best to simply create links to sections, such as in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (video game)#The Shire.
Also, keep a couple of things in mind. While chapter summaries can go in present tense, character pages (such as Amartiel) would have to be past tense. Also, avoid contractions like "isn't". -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 22:48, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Witch-king

You said you needed a summary for our new Featured Article ;-)

The Witch-king of Angmar (before Second Age 2200 - Third Age 3019, March 15) was the chief of the Nazgûl, King of Angmar, and Sauron’s great captain in his wars. A wraith, the Witch-king of Angmar was nearly indestructible, a terrible warrior, and a cunning strategist. As predicted by Glorfindel he fell by the hand of a woman, Éowyn, in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and his death marked the beginn of Sauron's downfall.

It's taken from the article for the greatest part but I added the last sentence about his fall. - Eldarion Telcontar 21:08, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Like it. I really had one wish: that it included Glorfindel and Eowyn. I am going to change that date around, though. And properly credit the image ;P -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 21:42, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re:Songs

I will consider it. And thank you for the "poem" installation, i didn't knew it existed. As for Khazad-Dum, It is spelled so in Summoning's CD. However, I've added the line (-). Originally it is written "Khazad Dúm"
mthomas 07:53, 19 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Then I'll move it to Khazad Dúm (song) for consistency. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 08:52, 19 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Articles for Battle for Middle-earth 2

May i have permission to create several articles about Battle for Middle-earth 2? For Example, "Dwarves in BFME2", that analyse the Dwarven force, and its accuracy in Tolkien's writings or its differece from it. Another example is "Maps of BFME2" that states and describes every map in the game and if it has differences from the original one (Forlindon in the game-Forlindon in Tolkien's writings). - mthomas 16:26, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nope. That's for a section "Portrayal in adaptations" in Dwarves proper, Forlindon, or maybe a section "Differences from the books" in BFME2, detailing changes in geography. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:31, 25 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"Grelvish"

The phrase on my user page was designed to frustrate you, but I deemed it dumb and therefore took it off my user page. It said, roughly, "This is designed to frustrate you, It uses both Sindarin and Quenya, Use it to frustrate others." However, I took it off because nobody will take the time to translate it. LotRfan01 00:16, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I actually took some time, but gave up when nothing made sense. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:48, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Multiple language words

If they are unrelated languages, I separate them with ----. Related identical words like aran are commented together. I still struggle with an easy readable layout Sage 11:38, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was thinking sort of a wiktionary approach, is that a good idea? (Aran needs cleanup, btw). -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:42, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Calendar

As I'm working on the events in Arda I have created a Google Calendar in order to keep track of the many events in different years. I inserted the events between April 2009 and March 2010 (unfortunately Google doesn't offer a Shire Calendar^^) and included the year in the description (e.g. "3021 - Samwise returns to Bag End"). Here comes the address. I think that it could prevent us from losing track, couldn't it? :) -- Eldarion Telcontar 21:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That's a good one. It certainly helps you keep track of everything. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 21:45, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Decipher Cards

yes. you can see it here.

Oh, and i have a collection of Gimli's cards (around 20) each one with different attributes and names (Gimli-Lord of the Glittering Caves/Gimli-Faithful Companion for example). Shall i upload them? (In the To-do-list is written that every Decipher card shall be uploaded. If so, we can take them form here. mthomas 11:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Okay, didn't know Thorin III had one. But Fror and Farin are NOT the characters from the Appendices, so I've removed those pictures from the articles. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:47, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
ok. and what about the other cards? mthomas 11:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, a scaled down version of the full card can be done? We do need a Fairuse-Decipher template for it, though. They're apparently (c) by NLP (New Line?), TE (Tolkien Enterprises) and Decipher. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What do you mean by "scaled down"? we can place it as a card or only the image. the images resolution is 350x400.mthomas 11:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I thought of uploading the images scaled down to about 75%. But since several other sites have them at 100%, I don't think it will be much of a problem fair use-wise. I think it's a better idea to categorize the decipher cards under their image set, rahter than what characters are included. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:22, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
intersting. let me know if you have ideas of sub categorizing. If you want to upload images, i've given you the link.mthomas 12:26, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, look at here. If we categorize them as "Category: Images from Reflections" or something (maybe "Images from Reflections (Decipher cards)"?), that way we can make the individual set pages redirects to the category. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:30, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Good. I'll try to contribute.mthomas 12:42, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Delete

please delete File:WAR-ICONS Harad device.gif and File:WAR-ICONS Harad device.png. I was just trying to create a device for battles with these images, but it wasn't good as the white background in the images does still appear. Unsigned comment by MThomas (talk • contribs).

Done. if you want an image deleted, just add Template:Delete, and say "delete" in the edit summary, I'll catch them then. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 10:22, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rollback

Dear Ederchil,

I want to make a question: How can I get rollback rights (if there are any)? I am already a rollbacker in another wiki, Halopedia (www.halo.wikia.com), and I would like to know how can I obtain these rights here

Thanks for your time,
