Images

Hi KA! If understand it correctly, the sorting of the artists by their last name disappeared when the category "Images by Artist" was changed to "Images by artist". Should they still be listed under their last name? --Morgan 17:41, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ah yes, I remember breaking that now (if it's any consolation, it was because the bot did it). They should still be listed alphabetically. I'll get round to fixing it at some point. -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  18:44, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I got round to it. -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  21:10, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Any idea on which copyright template to use on images of publications where the publisher no longer exists? For example, Show Volume 1 Number 1.png.--Morgan 20:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, it's difficult to tell what happens to copyrights when businesses go bankrupt. However, just to be sure, I would use the fairuse template and attribute "H & R Publications" as the copyright holder. -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  21:10, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lego Fair-use

Hi KA, would it be possible if you could create a fair-use template for the Lego Group. As we already have many Lego images, and probally will have more in the future. Their site is: http://www.lego.com/en-us/Default.aspx Thanks! --Amroth 20:19, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Certainly. I've made the template, but we'll have to ask one of those nice admins to add it to the licensing list.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  22:02, 19 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bot

Thanks for the help!--Morgan 17:52, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  18:35, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mandos

I'll leave this with you to sort out, but Talk:Námo (Mandos) didn't move because Talk:Mandos already existed. I don't know if you want to keep one/both/neither. Up to you. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:28, 30 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They can probably just stay as they are.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  16:13, 30 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks

Why thank you for the welcome, King Aragorn, or shall I call you Strider? Unsigned comment by OlorinTheWhite (talk • contribs).

You can call me Strider if you want! -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  22:05, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Fair-use Cover

We need to do something about this: Template:Fairuse-cover[former link]. It's used a lot and does seem moderately useful. Do we need, e.g. "Fairuse-HarperCollins", "Fairuse-HoughtonMifflin" etc etc? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 10:04, 13 May 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes. Whenever I attempt to sort it out, I quickly give up because of all the work involved. From the start of June I will be able to help you with all of this work.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  10:27, 13 May 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Deleting things

I only delete things that have no other articles linking to them.

My policy has not changed. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 22:48, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Will I ever learn?!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  08:50, 22 May 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Apparently not! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:12, 23 May 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am not going to delete any more of the 66 candidates for speedy deletion unless you can assure me that there is no more of these. You consistently do this and it is beginning to annoy a bit. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 21:43, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Z

Hi! Can you please add Z to Portal:Languages? The code on the page was too complicated for me... --Morgan 22:08, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Done!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  10:10, 6 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Locations category

I'm trying to name a category for such Sites of Civilations referring to courtyards, markets, squares, etc. How about "Spaces", or is too vague? Articles include Court of the Fountain (Minas Tirith) and Square of the Palace. Or can we use an existing category?--Morgan 21:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How about "Squares"?-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  22:05, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Sounds good.--Morgan 22:47, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Change cat

Don't forget to change to Category:Gatekeepers with over 10000 edits! ;) --Morgan 21:06, 18 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Many thanks!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  12:22, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image/File

What's the difference? Do we need to change this?--Morgan 20:34, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's the old way of doing it. Of course, both will work. But you'll usually find that articles that use "Image:" are very old and haven't been updated in a long time. It just bugs me! -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  20:53, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It bugs me that you change {{references}} to {{References}}, for example, it's not necessary and we should be consistent! File: is preferable (because we have sound clips that are files and certainly not images), but I don't think it's worth editing a page to specifically change. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 12:08, 30 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Radagast/Decipher

I tagged Radagast's Decipher Card appearance with a {fact} because I've been meaning to check out the source. It was an article on Weta's site ([1]). It's dead, but it's still accessible with Wayback Machine - [2]. How would we source that? --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:22, 30 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I wasn't sure myself, but Mith suggests that we should just reference the archive.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  16:30, 30 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yep, nothing strange about that -- give the Wayback Machine page as the reference.--Morgan 19:01, 30 June 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tom and Goldberry

Which Infobox? We don't know what they are, do we? --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 17:58, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Exactly. They're legitimate characters and it's a shame that they don't have an infobox just because we don't know what they are. How about an infobox for "enigmas"?-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  18:01, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have no problem with that. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:43, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Copyright license

I talked to Mans Bjorkman and he said that we have his permission to use his heraldic devices provided that we mention:

  1. A link to the source (http://www.forodrim.org/gobennas/heraldry/heraldry.htm)
  2. A disclaimer that they are based on Tolkien's own images and descriptions.

Sage 17:28, 15 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ah, will you proceed to add the copyright notice, templates etc? Sage 17:51, 15 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for getting permission from Mans Bjorkman. As they're not all by Bjorkman in the Flags and Devices category, I can't bot it. Could you add the the info to each page? Just put the source URL as the website (i.e. [http://www.forodrim.org/gobennas/heraldry/heraldry.htm Source]), and put the disclaimer under ==Summary==.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  17:57, 15 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks!

Thanks for fixing my goof up on the Third Age:2644 page. I meant to add Third Age:2665 which was a broken link on most of the Náin genealogy pages (including the Thorin page), but edited the existing 2644 instead. When I went back to the Thorin page later, I couldn't understand at first why the link was still red. --NoBT 22:44, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Signed by Shippey

I'm jealous! I should have gone... :-( --Morgan 21:01, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We did try to convince you once or twice! ;) I'm debating whether or not to leave those copies untouched - I want to read them! -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  21:15, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Writings

I undid your last edit to Writings by J.R.R. Tolkien: if you check an early version of the article, the entries often contained publisher, page numbers for essays, etc. But since the list is now so large, I've removed all that information, which is available in the individual articles.--Morgan 19:07, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No problem!-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  12:24, 28 September 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Title

I have done Template:Title. Please test it in a variety of articles in the many combinations there are:

  • italics
  • brackets (just {{title}})
  • lowercase
  • italics and lowercase
  • italics and brackets
  • lowercase and brackets
  • italics, brackets and lowercase

Note that the template should be able to deal with all namespaces, as well as coping with the spellings "italic", "lower-case" and "lowercase". Finally, the two options of "italics" and "lowercase" (brackets isn't an option: the template will always make your brackets smaller) should work either way around. So, I hope, {{title|italics|lowercase}} should work the same as {{title|lower-case|italics}}.

If you could test this one out and list any snags here, I would be grateful. Thanks! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 01:48, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Many thanks for making this! Here are my tests based on the different combinations:
From these tests it looks like the template works and there are no problems.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  10:56, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
italics and lowercase (and sometimes brackets as well) should be used for Elvish words, I believe, as we do tend to italicise them. But if that's not the case then it doesn't matter. I'm a bit worried about whether it will work alright with both lowercase and italics the other way around. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:03, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Further tests show that they work either way around:
I don't mind whether we italicise words or not. We just need a consistent style.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  22:31, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The previous templates have been removed, and all applicable articles that have {{DISPLAYTITLE}} now utilise Template:Title instead. Elvish words have not been italicised. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 22:31, 19 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's great, thanks! Should we use {{title}} on disambiguation pages?-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  10:44, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm not entirely sure, to be honest - I thought about doing it but I wasn't convinced if I should. What's your feelings on the matter? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 23:05, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm similarly unsure. We want to make sure that people know they're viewing disambiguation pages, and a full size "(disambiguation)" is a good way of doing this. In saying that, a smaller "(disambiguation)" does not really inhibit this purpose and it does look better. Implementation should be fairly easy if we just add {{title}} into Template:Disambig.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  10:03, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Goldberry 3D image

Hi, please make it known that the 3D scene I created is only meant as an educational exercise only, not to give anyone monetary gain. I do not intend to take advantage of the Tolkien or Hildebrandt Brothers, and do not seek to sell any image based on this. I created this 3D scene out of respect for the painting by the Brothers Hildebrandt, my heroes for decades. I got an email from a person who accused me of simply altering the painting and calling it my own. I actually created every object in this image using ZBrush and rendered it myself. If she compared the two together anyway she would have noticed many differences, but again, the copyright is for my 3D scene only, not the original painting, and it was only an educational exercise for learning 3D modeling.

Dave Luebbert

Hi Dave. I've added a short description to the image's page. Is that OK?-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  20:55, 24 December 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
