Whitwell was a settlement in the Shire.
Whitwell was located on the Green Hills, not far from Tuckborough. Thain Paladin Took II, had a farm there.
Whit is a shortening of "white", referring to the colour of the soil (presumably pertaining to chalk in the soil of the Green Hills).
Whitwell is a real-life English place-name.
