Wintring in Bree was the tenth month of the Bree Calendar, corresponding to Winterfilth in the Shire Calendar. It is approximately equivalent to modern October (in fact running from 22 September to 21 October on a modern calendar).[1]

Etymology

The name Bree means "Wintry".[2]

The Shire-hobbits believed that Wintring was a Bree alteration of the older name.[1]
