Why the featured articles do not have a template of their own, a star in the top right of the page like Wikipedia's for example? Maybe someone should create one such template.mthomas 08:26, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I had been considering it for a while, shouldn't be too difficult to make. Also, maybe we can have faction symbols? Most wikis I know have those in the top right corner too. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 09:55, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, I'm having difficulties in creating a code for the featured article template, so could someone do this? mthomas 18:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Can't you just copy the code off another wiki? (these, for example:[1], [2] or [3]). We only need a symbol. Maybe the star of Feanor (on the Doors of Durin)? -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 21:05, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm having some troube here:Template:Featured Article I've created the code, but it needs some editing. Can you help? mthomas 13:15, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
How about that? Still need to figure out how to link to the FA page, working on that. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:27, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Update: we need the imagemap extension for that. And I'm looking for a gif-version of the doors of durin, because I think that is a better idea than the sigil of Earendil (see below).
Ok! here's your gif image: [[Image:Mthomas - Doors of Durin Featured Article.gif]]. I downloaded as a simple image and added some stuff. However, it doesn't look so good in small size, so i would prefer the Earendil's star or something like that.mthomas 19:50, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Earendil's star could possibly conflict with faction symbols. I tried to make one myself, but it needs more work. Though in a strange way, the grey kinda looks nice. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 20:11, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok. look at this one Mthomas - Doors of Durin Featured Article.gif. I've put a star an top of the door. I think it is good. My only problem now is that the icon is not placed correctly in the template: for example, if you put the template to the Witch King page, it will appear right of the infobox and not above it. Can we do something about it? mthomas 09:22, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

The thing is that the icon must be placed in or above the horizontal line under the article's title.mthomas
Yeah, noticed that too. (Don't like the new image, btw. It doesn't say "featured" at first glance. It shouldn't be gray, it should stand out. A simple golden star would even suffice for me). I tried a couple of things, but it doesn't do anything. -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 11:09, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Part 2: Faction symbols?

Many of the big wikis have faction symbols, tiny squares in the top corner listing things such as affiliation, time period, et cetera. Should we have such a thing too? -- Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 18:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

It's actually a good idea. examples of these can be found on the top right of a Decipher card. mthomas 19:30, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
