I think that it would be great if we could rename images; as I'm you you'd all agree, deleting an image and then uploading it under another name is a pain in the neck. There is a setting (which has apparently been around for quite a while) which will allow us to do this. See: Manual:$wgAllowImageMoving. Obviously we'd have to be careful about moving images - people should only use this feature if no pages link to/include the file or if people are prepared to re-link immediately. What do you all think?-- 18:47, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
- Sure. Over on wikia it's generally reserved for admins, but I don't think that's necessary here.
- As for relinking, a redirect will be created upon moving (it can be suppressed), and the image will still appear on the pages. It will, however, end up in Special:UnusedFiles. Since that category is fairly crowded already, we'd better relink them straight away. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 19:01, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
- Oh right, I wasn't sure how it worked. But, as you say, we should re-link nonetheless.-- 20:33, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
- So is this already enabled for admins?-- 16:34, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
