I've noticed that the majority of articles are not currently set up to handle tagged references. This should probably be fixed. For every relevant article, the section ==References== (or whatever similar code used) should be wholly replaced with {{references}}, which looks the same but automagically embeds a list of references, whose actual texts can be embedded inline in the text. For each inline reference in the article body, the syntax is something like <ref name="refname">Describe me.</ref>. The name="refname" part is optional, but is desirable if you intend on embedding the identical reference more than once—so that it appears only once in the reference list. As an example, I've embedded a reference list at the bottom the page.[1] - Gilgamesh 19:09, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Er - we know. This functionality was only added comparatively recently by our admin. Most articles are from before that time and so don't use it. That should and will be changed in the way most things are handled here: Anyone doing a job on an article can change it to tagged references, certainly if they need tagged refs for their job. Anyone with time on their hands and feels like it can have a drive to change articles to tagged refs. — Mithrennaith 06:04, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
[No use though in adding a reference section to an article if there are no references ... — Mithrennaith 01:46, 16 February 2010 (UTC)]
I know. Only as they are needed. - Gilgamesh 04:03, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

  1. See if you can find where I've embedded this.
