Letter to Joy Hill (5 January 1967)
On 5 January 1967, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Joy Hill.[1]
- Subject: Tolkien thanks Hill for sending a copy of The Children's Treasury of Literature which included a chapter from The Hobbit, illustrated by Robert J. Lee. Tolkien did not like the illustrations at all, calling them vulgar and stupid. He ends the letter by discussing his Beowulf lecture.
