Mithrandir is the Sindarin name given to the wizard Gandalf (Westron). The first mention of it in J.R.R. Tolkien's text is within The Mirror of Galadriel in the quote mentioned above. The name was most common among the Elves, Gondorians, and Dúnedain.

Mithrandir translates to "Grey Pilgrim" or "Grey Wanderer". mith = grey, randir = pilgrim, wanderer.
