On 14 December 1967, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Rosfrith Murray.^[1]

Subject: Christmas greetings. Tolkien encloses a signed copy of Smith of Wootton Major, first American edition.
Description: 2 pages, 16mo, signed.^[2]

Excerpts

"This is the American edition (better than ours, though I do not think much of the photograph[)]". Before signing himself "Yrs. affectionately Ronald", the author states "...I remember you ... in prayers."^[2]
