The Tolkien Companion was first published in 1976, before The Silmarillion, and contains numerous errors. The original text was reprinted in 2000, however a revised edition with corrections was published in 1979 as The New Tolkien Companion. Then in 2002 it was revised and re-published as The Complete Tolkien Companion.
