Tolkien Gateway talk:Spoilers

[edit] Merge with Spoilers

Can't we merge the two? There's not much use in putting two articles in the same category that say exactly the same. -- Ederchil 14:47, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Agreed, Spoilers probably doesn't need its own article under the main namespace.
Should we merge Spoilers with this or the other way around.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  16:59, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Del Toro spoilers

My vote is to just post what we know and assume people are capable of reading with caution if they aren't interested in the deviations the film will take from the books. We can assume the majority of people have read The Hobbit and there is going to be very little to actually spoil. --Hyarion 15:56, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

I didn't mean storyline spoilers, originally.
I ment leaked set images, fans-with-a-website/blog/account at CoE/TORn/MT/anywhere who have gotten "this close" to the set and spotted that which could have been Smaug impaled on a spiked wheel. With a popular fanbase, it's going to be tricky for GdT's security to keep folks off the set. To what level do we let speculation on such images or descriptions enter the article? Do we report "an unknown prop impaled on a spiked wheel" or "ZOMG that could be Smaug... or Kíli... or whatever"?
In short: In order to keep to the facts, we must define "fact" first. Source verification. -- Ederchil 16:06, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
We will definitely need to be strict on rumors being added, we can't allow an anonymous editor to add a rumor when there is no source. Everything will need to have a source, and if it's just another fan site we need to make sure the reader knows that so they can weight the statement accordingly. A good idea might be to have a section for rumors proven false, just as we need to prove which rumors are true, we need to inform fans which rumors are not true. Hopefully we can have our own spies around the area and we can have exclusive "rumors" which wouldn't require citations, such as if Ederchil travels to New Zealand, but no point worrying about that now. --Hyarion 16:38, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
