Halbrand was the name of a man of the Second Age of Middle-earth. His character was invented for The Rings of Power television series by Amazon Studios, where he was portrayed by Charlie Vickers.

History
Halbrand was once the supposed King of the Southlands before Orcs drove him out alongside Abigail, Eamon, Astrid, and others. Halbrand fled with them on a ship in the Sundering Seas. However, a nameless thing known only as "the worm" destroyed the ship forcing them onto a broken raft. Eventually, after drifting for some time, they come upon the Elf Galadriel. The encounter is short lived however, as the worm returns to finish them off. Halbrand breaks a section of raft, abandoning the others to the worm. He then pulled Galadriel onto the raft, asking her where she wants him to take her.

Soon afterwards, a storm comes upon them and lightning strikes the raft, causing Galadriel to fall into the water, being dragged down by a weighted pole. However, with some slight hesitation, Halbrand rescues her, before they both lose consciousness. Eventually, their raft is discovered by a Númenórean ship belonging to Captain Elendil, who brings them to Armenelos, the capital city of Númenor, to present them to the Queen Regent Míriel. When Galadriel aggressively makes demands of Míriel, Halbrand intervenes before things could escalate further, warning Galadriel to not make any enemies there.

With Galadriel restricted to the palace grounds, Halbrand explores the city, where he meets a Smithy, who tells him that he must get a guild crest in order to work for him. Halbrand later encounters a group of guildsman while eating and get them drunk. In the process, he stole a guild crest belonging to man named Tamar. Upon turning a corner assured of his victory, Halbrand is immediately made aware that Tamar and the others were following him. Despite trying to give back the crest, Tamar and the other guildsmen begin taking blows at him. This provokes Halbrand into violently retaliating, severely wounding them, yet upon being caught, he allowed himself to be arrested.

Galadriel soon visits him, bringing to him a scroll she stole from the Hall of Lore. The scroll identified the insignia he wore as the emblem of the Kings of the Southlands. Halbrand reveals to her that he picked up the insignia on a dead man and thought that it suited him. Yet Galadriel refuses to listen to him, deluding herself into believing him to be the rightful king.

Halbrand is eventually released and sets out to begin a new start at life working as a blacksmith's apprentice. Yet, he is forced by Galadriel to join the Númenórean expedition to Middle-earth after Galadriel persuaded Míriel to send an army to retake the Southlands from Orcs.

Upon arriving at Middle-earth, Halbrand rides with the Númenórean cavalry across the Ephel Dúath to the village of Tirharad. Though they deal easily with the Orcs, their leader, Adar flees on a brown horse. Galadriel and Halbrand pursue him through a forest, until Halbrand trips the horse, dismounting Adar. He is only just prevented from killing him by Galadriel. Halbrand returns the favor by preventing Galadriel from doing the same during her interrogation of Adar.

Afterwards, Míriel introduces Halbrand to Bronwyn and the villagers of Tirharad as the promised King of the Southlands. Shortly after, Tirharad is destroyed when Orodruin violently erupts. In the ensuing chaos, Halbrand receives a serious wound to his abdomen, and is brought to the camp that the Númenóreans had set up outside the affected region. Upon Galadriel's arrival, it is revealed that his wound requires Elvish healing. While Halbrand declared that he intended to return and retake the Southlands, he rides alongside Galadriel to Eregion.

At Ost-in-Edhil, Halbrand recovers quickly, meets Lord Celebrimbor in his workshop and learns of Mithril and the struggle that the Elves are facing. Halbrand suggested that an alloy might be able to amplify the qualities of the Mithril and Celebrimbor agrees with his reasoning.

However, after a suspicious Galadriel uncovers a genealogical scroll revealing that the last King of the Southlands had died thousands of years ago with no heirs, Halbrand is forced to oust himself as Sauron. Upon doing so, however, Galadriel attacks him with her dagger. Halbrand effortlessly blocks her attack and enters her mind to try to prove to her that he desired to redeem himself and heal Middle-earth and all the evil that he did as a servant of Morgoth.

Nevertheless, Galadriel refuses to believe that he is redeemable and Halbrand flees Eregion and returns to the Southlands, now newly-named by Adar as Mordor.

Etymology
Halbrand is possibly most likely a Sindarin name comprised of the element brand ("towering; tall and massive") and the Noldorin hall ("exalted, high").fact

Genealogy
There is a genealogical scroll that appears face up within the final episode, Alloyed, at the following time stamps: 39:15, 40:26, 40:27, and 40:28. If a translation of it has been made, then please replace this note with it.
