''Findegil'' is [[Sindarin]] and possibly means "skilled pen" and contains ''[[tegil]]'' "pen"

The first element of the name seems to be ''*fin-'' "skill" ([[root]] [[PHIN]]-; cf. [[Old Noldorin]] ''[[finde]]''<ref>{{LR|Etymologies}}</ref>). There is also a word ''[[fîn]]'' "hair".
