The Cracks of Doom, also known as Sammath Naur, was the forge and workshop of Sauron tunneled deep into Mount Doom and open to its central fire. Sammath Naur is a Sindarin name. The latter word (naur) means "fire".
Midgewater Marshes, a fly-infested region of marshland in central Eriador, was a fen that lay between the Chetwood to the west and the Weather Hills to the east. The Great East Road was to the south of the marshes.

On October 2, 3018 Strider led his hobbit companions into the marshes on their third day out from Bree. After spending two days and nights in the marshes it was evident why there were no inhabitants. The land was boggy and dangerous with no permanent path. Pools, reeds, and rushes filled the area which was home to birds, flies, tiny biting midges, and loud cricket-like insects which Samwise Gamgee referred to as Neekerbreekers.

Tighfield was a village or town located somewhere in the Shire, though its exact location is not known. It is important to history as the home of many of Samwise Gamgee's ancestors. His great-great-grandfather Wiseman Gamwich came to Tighfield about two hundred years before the War of the Ring, and Wiseman's son Hob Gammidge is recorded as a roper, one of a long line of Tighfield rope-makers.

Hob's son Hobson, and in turn his son Andwise, were said to have practised their skills in a rope-walk (that is, a rope-maker's yard) for many years.

Hob's grandson was Hamfast Gamgee, Sam's father, who left Tighfield for Hobbiton, to start a new life as a gardener.
Etymology
Tighfield's name is associated with the tradition of rope-making there and contains an old word for "rope" (see English "tie", whose spelling was assimilated to verb "tie"). It was the site of a rope-maker's yard, also called "rope-walk" because the ropes were stretched out in long lines over trestles at intervals.

Tolkien notes the modern place-name elements tigh, teigh, tye, tey which are unrelated; they mean "an enclosed piece of land" and do not occur as the first element in a compound.

Tolkien also noted that the term "rope-walk" in the text has confused several of his translators, to the point of imagining rope bridges.
Aelin-uial, or the Meres of Twilight, was a marshy confluence of the river Aros into Sirion, south of Doriath.

Location
The Aelin-uial was the maze of lakes and fens formed where the river Aros met the Sirion, before it fell beneath the Andram. These were lands heavy with enchantment from the Girdle of Melian guarding Doriath to the north of the Aelin-uial, and also from the power of Ulmo the Vala, which was very strong in this area.

The Aelin-uial was under the control of Doriath. Thingol's Marchwardens kept secret ferries among the reeds, which they could use to cross in between Sirion's eastern and western banks unseen by anyone. At the southernmost end of the Aelin-uial, the waters of Sirion met once more at the Falls of Sirion.

It was here that Turgon and Finrod were given the idea of building their hidden strongholds located at Gondolin and Nargothrond, which was an idea put into their dreams by Ulmo.

Etymology
Adrahil is an Adûnaic name of unknown meaning.

The first element perhaps comes from a possible Adûnaic word *adar which may or not be related to Sindarin adar.

The second element -hil (also seen in the name Imrahil) perhaps is related to the Westron ending -kil (cf. banakil, Tarkil) meaning "man", ultimately related to Elvish "follower".
