Silvan Elvish was a name for the tongue spoken by the Silvan Elves.

History
Silvan Elvish descended from Nandorin/Danian (from their leader Lenwë/Dân), which was the language of the Nandor, those Teleri Elves who broke from the Great Journey east of the Misty Mountains. As such, Nandorin was a branch of the Common Telerin.

A branch of the Nandor eventually completed the Journey, settling in Ossiriand and became known as the Laiquendi; those spoke West-Danian (also called Ossiriandrin or Ossiriandish, and Laiquenderin). Those who remained in the East spoke East-Danian.

After the First Age, the surviving Elves of Beleriand carried their speech back into the east. In the Third Age the Nandor became known as Silvan Elves, with their language being known as Silvan Elvish, heard both in Lothlórien and the Woodland Realm of Mirkwood. Sindarin-speakers settled in both the main Silvan realms, and in Lórien, at least, Sindarin quickly overtook Silvan Elvish in common use. The history of the tongue in Mirkwood is more difficult to determine - some sources suggest that it, too, was quickly overtaken by Sindarin, but other sources dispute this. Sindarin had become the dominant Elvish tongue of the Westlands, with Nandorin little-spoken; it was represented mainly in old place-names and Silvan dialects developed under its influence.

By the end of the Third Age, the only remnants of Silvan were a few names, like Caras Galadhon, Amroth or Legolas which sound like Sindarin, but actually betray the influences of Silvan words.

Other names
Legolas calls the dialect the "woodland tongue".

In one note Tolkien calls the language just Silvan.

Other versions of the legendarium
In The Lhammas (ca. 1937-38), Tolkien used the names Ossiriandic or Ossiriandeb; and Leikvian for East Danian.

Jon is a central character in the Assault on Archet. Before the assault at the Hunting Lodge he is introduced to the game as a hunter. During this time Jon plays an important role in saving Archet from destruction.
His father, Captain Brackenbrook, was the Captain of Archet. He had chosen to trust Calder Cob, his best soldier, over his own son to help him in the assault. However, he didn't know that Calder was a traitor, and even though Jon Brackenbook tries to convince his father that Calder was duplicitous, Captain Brackenbrook doesn't listen. During the assault, the Blackwolds attacked Archet and Jon came to the town's defense. During the attack Jon's father was slain by the hands of Calder Cob.
After the assault, Jon immediately started rebuilding the settlement of Archet. He took the position of his father, as Captain, and is in charge of rebuilding and strengthening the security of Archet.
:I think you're right, they're one and the same. Definitely merge. --Narfil Palùrfalas 21:36, 1 March 2008 (EST)

::I checked it on the General Map of Middle-earth, The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age and the Map of Wilderland. The Forest Road is the same as the Old Forest Road. The only two instances where the name "Forest Road" is used that I could find was in Note 14 in The Disaster of the Gladden Fields in Unifinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth. The page Forest Road should be changed into a page that redirects to the page Old Forest Road. In addition the content on this page does not have any references. --Akhorahil 10:22, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
:::Can this page now be turned into a redirect since I transferred information on this page to the Old Forest Road page. Can someone double check that I did not forget any information from this page to the other page? Dour1234, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

:I double checked. However, I would add under section "Etymologies" the name 'Forest Road' since it has been used once in Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-Earth (foot note with link included, obviously). I eneth nîn

Vinitharya was the royal son of Valacar of Gondor and Vidumavi, daughter of the King of Rhovanion. When he returned to Gondor with his father, he was given the name Eldacar, a name he retained when he inherited Gondor's throne.

Etymology
It is said that the name Vinitharya had much the same meaning as Rómendacil.

Winid-haria is a Gothic name meaning "pasture-armyman" or "Winidas-armyman".

The Wends or Winidas (in Old English) were a Slavic people who dwelt inside Germanic territories. A possible analogy of the Winidas within the legendarium could be the Middle Men who belonged to Gondor, a suitable reference for the Northmen.

Note that it should be pronounced as Vinit-harya (as in plot-hole), and not as **Viniþarya.
