Under Isengard, the Uruk-hai are readying for war, painting their faces with the White Hand of Saruman, and arming and armoring themselves. Saruman gives them a rousing speech, to which the Uruk-hai cheer. He then turns to Lurtz, giving him the orders that one of the halflings carries an item of great value, and that they are to be brought to him alive and unspoiled. ==Synopsis==
While resting in Caras Galadhon, Frodo suddenly snaps awake, and sees Galadriel walking by. Frodo rises, quietly slips past the other sleeping hobbits, and follows her. She enters a garden with a pedestal in the middle, takes a pitcher, and fills it up with water from a nearby fountain. She turns and sees Frodo entering the garden.

Galadriel asks if he will look into the mirror, and Frodo asks what he will see if he does. Galadriel explains that even the wisest cannot know, for the mirror shows many things -- things that were, things that are, and things that have not yet come to pass. She pours the water into the bowl on the pedestal and steps back. Frodo approaches and looks into the water.

At first he only sees his own reflection, but then the images shift. He gets glimpses of the other members of the Fellowship of the Ring. then of Bag End and The Shire. Suddenly, the image shifts to the Shire in flames, orcs attacking and enslaving the hobbits, and Bag End left in ruins.

Suddenly, the Eye of Sauron fills the mirror. Frodo cannot look away, The One Ring slipping out of his shirt and dangling over the mirror in front of the Eye. Frodo finally grabs the ring and pulls himself away, falling to the ground.

Galadriel explains that she saw what Frodo saw, explaining that he saw a vision of the future if he failed to destroy the Ring. Speaking into Frodo's mind, she talks about the Breaking of the Fellowship and how "he" will try to take The Ring. One by one, the Ring will destroy them all. Frodo holds out the ring, offering it to Galadriel, who changes.
The Scroll of Isildur was a scroll made by Isildur himself during his short time in Minas Tirith after the War of the Last Alliance between 3441 and 2. The scroll held Isildur's account of the gaining of the Ring from Sauron and described the appearance of an inscription around the Ring while it was still hot. The Scroll was stored for millennia in the vaults of that city and according to Gandalf it was probably forgotten after the time of the Kings of Gondor and nobody, except him and perhaps Saruman, had seen it.

Gandalf started to believe that Bilbo Baggins' Magic Ring was the One. In 3017 he visited Minas Tirith and studied the scroll. Isildur's description was vital in helping Gandalf identify the Ring. He visited Frodo Baggins in Bag End and tested his ring in the fireplace, confirming it as the One Ring of Sauron.
:Gandalf visits Minas Tirith to discern the identity of Bilbo's Ring. A brief scene shows him guided to the vaults by a Gondorian keeper and reading the scroll, which is an elaborate prop in Tengwar calligraphy.

Galadriel suddenly reverts to her former self, feeling relief that she has "passed the test."
Synopsis
As the journey through Moria continues, Gimli suddenly sees something that makes him run off ahead. The rest of the Fellowship follows, to find Gimli kneeling and weeping before a sarcophagus. Gandalf reads the inscription: "Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria." Handing his hat and his staff to Pippin, he retrieves an old tome and begins to read it.

Pippin suddenly touches one of the dwarf skeletons, which tumbles into the well its sitting on, making a loud racket. Everyone cringes and braces themselves as the loud clanging echoes throughout the mines, but nothing seems to happen. An annoyed Gandalf takes his hat and staff back from Pippin and chastises him, but goes silent as drums begin beating.

Sting suddenly begins glowing blue, making Sam and Frodo realize that orcs are approaching. Boromir quickly tries to shut the doors to the tomb, but is nearly hit by two orc arrows. The Fellowship prepares for battle, Boromir sarcastically noting that they have a Cave Troll. Legolas throws them axes to bar the door, and then they draw back, with everyone drawing their weapons for battle. Gimli growls, declaring boldly that there's still one dwarf in Moria that draws breath.

The orcs soon break through the door, and the battle begins. The Fellowship holds their own, but the sudden entrance of the Cave-Troll turns the tide. During the fight, Frodo is seemingly skewered by a spear from the Cave-Troll, which is soon slain by the Fellowship. Frodo is revealed to be unharmed, having been saved by the Mithril-coat given to him by Bilbo.

Hearing more orcs approaching, Gandalf quickly orders everyone to flee to the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, but they don't get far before they are completely surrounded by orcs. A sudden growl in the distance terrorizes the orcs, and they scurry away. Gandalf realizes a Balrog is approaching, and quickly orders everyone to run.
The Ring Goes South is the twenty-fifth scene of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the thirty-first of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (extended edition). This scene was extended in the latter edition.

Synopsis
Having set off from Rivendell, the Fellowship of the Ring is making their way south, following the line of the Misty Mountains. Gandalf states that the goal is to travel south for forty days, then turn east at the Gap of Rohan to travel straight to Mordor. They later stop to set up a camp, with Samwise Gamgee preparing a meal there.

Gimli grouses that they're taking the long way around, and recommends that they go through the Mines of Moria, where his brother Balin would give them a royal welcome. Gandalf, however, vetoes this idea, stating he would not pass through Moria unless they had no other choice. On the other side of the camp, Boromir is training Merry and Pippin in swordplay, but accidentally strikes Pippins' hand. Pippin retaliates by kicking Boromir in the shin, and the two hobbits tackle him in a friendly tussle. Aragorn tries to break them up, but gets tripped by the hobbits and swept up into the tussle.

The levity quickly ends when Legolas sees something in the sky. Gimli writes it off as a wisp of cloud, but Boromir notes, with concern, that it's moving fast, and against the wind. The Fellowship is forced to hide both their camp and themselves as a flock of crows fly past then.

Gandalf notes with dismay that the crows are spies of Saruman, which means the passage south is being watched. Needing a new path forward, Gandalf redirects the Fellowship to the pass of Caradhras.
