'''MerpCon''' is an annual convention held in Spokane, Washington and hosted by [http://www.merp.com MERP.com].
[[Category:Conventions]]

MerpCon is short for: Middle-Earth Role Playing Convention. The Merp portion is not to be confused with, or thought of as exclusively ICE's ([Iron Crown Enterprises]) MERP ([Middle-earth Role Playing]) game system, although that's certainly one of the many game systems used to play during the event.

The event is NOT endorsed by [Tolkien Enterprises], the [Tolkien Estate], or any of the many other [Tolkien copyright holders]. It is a completely volunteer-run, non-revenue, 100% free event.

The MerpCon event is NOT hosted by Merp.com, but it's website is thanks to the generosity of the Merp.com volunteers. The event is hosted by a different group of volunteers. Some of which may contribute to Merp.com but they are NOT the same organizations.

The event is held each year during the last weekend of July. It runs for 3 days from that Friday, through to then end of the Sunday (and sometimes a little into the morning of that following Monday).

The event is focused on [Role Playing Gaming] in [J.R.R. Tolkien]'s Middle-earth, using ANY game system adapted or created for play in Middle-earth or any aspect of Tolkien's universe ( [Arda] or [Eã] depending on your perspective of how broad to take it).

The event began with [MerpCon I] in 2005, followed by [MerpCon II] in 2006, and currently [MerpCon III] is preparing for the 2007 event.

A number of guest speakers have been at each event, including doctors, professors, and published authors.

The [www.merpcon.org] website offers downloads of audio and video clips from the event, including the guest speakers speeches and follow-up Q&A.

More to come soon.
