Inspiration
The name Cracks of Doom also sometimes just Crack of Doom is a wordplay on "cracke of Doome" (Macbeth; IV i 117) meaning the crack/peal of thunder or the sudden sound of the last trumpet that announces the Last Day. Here, Tolkien uses "crack" to mean "fissure". Tolkien stated that he suspected he derived the idea for this sense of the phrase from a book by Algernon Blackwood, which he had read many years prior.

Although Tolkien could no longer recall the name or specifics of the story, it has been suggested that the book in question is Blackwood's The Education of Uncle Paul, in which two children take the titular character to see "a tiny little crack between Yesterday and To-morrow", and slip through it.

Portrayal in adaptations
2001-3: The Lord of the Rings (film series)
:Elrond is seen leading Isildur to the Cracks of Doom and urging him to throw it into the fire. In the films it appears as a doorway with a long bridge that ends with a narrow cliff, with lava below. Gollum and Frodo fight at the Cracks of Doom before both falling (Frodo was rescued by Sam) while in the book Gollum falls by himself.
Beleth (born 417) was the eldest child and only daughter of Bregolas.

History
Beleth was two years older than her elder brother Baragund and four years older than her younger brother Belegund. After the Dagor Bragollach, most women and children of the house of Bëor were forced to flee Dorthonion. No tales relate the fate of Beleth; her brothers fell with their uncle Barahir when their band of outlaws was betrayed. Through her father Bregolas, Beleth was the cousin of the renowned Beren the One-handed.

I'm a reader who fell in with Middle-earth because of Bilbo. I first read The Hobbit when I was around twelve years old. I picked up The Lord of the Rings in college, but I put it down after the chapter "The Council of Elrond" because of all the references to older tales. So, I picked up The Silmarillion and never looked back.

My reading history is as follows:

* The Hobbit
* The Lord of the Rings ("A Long-expected Party" through "The Council of Elrond")
* The Silmarillion
* Beren and Lúthien
* The Children of Húrin
* The Fall of Gondolin
* Unfinished Tales
* Chunks of The History of Middle-earth, primarily:
** "The Lay of Leithian" (III)
** The Annals of Aman (X)
** "Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth" (X)
** The Grey Annals (XI)
** The Family Trees (XII)

After wrapping up Unfinished Tales, I plan to read The Fall of Númenor before going back to The Lord of the Rings.

Aside from Tolkien's writings, some of my favorite books include Till We have Faces by C.S. Lewis and Son by Lois Lowry.

Beleth's remote descendant in the Second Age was Beregar, father of Erendis. Hence, it is assumed that Beleth was married and had descendants from her unknown children.

Beleth's remote descendant in the Second Age was Beregar, father of Erendis. Hence, it is assumed that Beleth was married and had descendants from her unknown children.
Other versions of the legendarium
In an early version of the House of Bëor, Beleth was the daughter of Boron and thus aunt to Bregor. In the last revision to the genealogy Beleth was moved down three generations.
