[https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/archive/alpha/alpha-smp-servers/831888-minecraft-middle-earth-recreating-tolkiens-world Founded] by q220 on 10 October 2010, it is one of the longest running Minecraft building communities and has been called one of the “best Minecraft servers” according to the [https://www.pcgamesn.com/minecraft/15-best-minecraft-servers PCGamesN]Magazine. A couple of weeks after Minecraft implemented the [https://minecraft.wiki/w/Multiplayer Multiplayer]functionality, discussions popped up on the Minecraft forums of creating middle-earth inside the game. The original idea for MCME came from that post. The project was founded by a group of players in 2010, who dreamed of re-creating Middle-earth in Minecraft. Their objective is to build the whole of Middle-earth as a community all while remaining as accessible as possible. Therefore MCME does not use any [https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Mods mods]. Another important consideration early on, was the time at which the server should be set, after deliberation by the community, it was decided to set it to 22 September, [[Bilbo's Farewell Party|Bilbo’s 111th birthday]] [[Third Age|T.A.]] [[Third Age 3001|3001]].

Given its popularity and shallow learning curve, Minecraft was a good medium in which to work. In the server’s early days, players had to apply in order to join the server, as there were no tools that protected builds. The project started on a vanilla world and players had to flatten and build all of the terrain by hand. Along with the multiplayer Minecraft community, MCME evolved to include world protection and terrain editing plugins. However, given the limitations of the game, it was hard to create realistic builds. MCME’s commitment to accessibility meant that there were certain limitations that they could not overcome by modding game files. While MCME used [https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Resource_pack resource packs] (RP) from the beginning, changing textures in order to more closely resemble the aesthetic needed, this would not allow for new blocks to be added to the game. Clever workarounds, like splitting the map into different RP regions and using different [https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Block_states block states], had to be developed, making the server infrastructure behind the build project an impressive project in itself. MCME currently maintains five [https://youtube/VvplHFkeL1U?si=vxyUPf_3SRhhxyzO resource packs] to cover styles such as, Dwarven, Human, Elven, Mordor and Rohan.

The project is not affiliated to Minecraft, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mojang_Studios Mojang]or [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft Microsoft]in any way. The server has a very experienced group of build staff members who set up jobs where everyone can help, plots that are assigned or claimed individually or with friends, and build events like build days, where the whole community comes together to work on one area. Builds are inspired by various interpretations such as the movies and real life information and architecture, but always refer back to the books wherever possible. [https://www.mcmiddleearth.com/ '''''Minecraft Middle Earth'''''] (MCME) is a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft Minecraft] build server recreating the world of J.R.R. Tolkien's [[Middle-earth]]. The map is 29,000 by 30,000 blocks. This makes an area of 870 square kilometers - the same size as Berlin, Dallas, or Fort Worth in Texas!

==History==
[[File:MinasTirithMCME.jpg|thumb|Minas Tirith (Completed in 2014) Screenshot by Webr|left]]
[[File:Terrain.png|thumb|322x322px|Terrain Screenshot by TotiGonzales]]

MCME is a non-commercial, volunteer based online group of Lord of the Rings enthusiasts who enjoy building Tolkien's world in Minecraft. The project is funded by [https://www.mcmiddleearth.com/community/donate/drives/contribute-towards-our-community-costs.1/ Donations]and does not generate any profits.

==Current Organization==
[[File:Tolkiendaysmcme.png|thumb|288x288px|MCME at the Tolkien Days Convention]]
Minecraft Middle Earth aims to recreate J.R.R. Tolkien’s world in Minecraft. They do this by organizing themselves in groups, such as Guides, Builders, etc. Comprehensive research is effectuated, which concludes into a planning document that gets posted and updated on the [https://www.mcmiddleearth.com/community/forums/ forums]. Other details are added to the world to help explorers feel more immersed. For instance, the project has its own soundtrack, composed by volunteers. Additionally there are tours and minigames each week and many community driven events during the year.

As of 2024, MCME has been presented at the Tolkien Days Convention three times.

==Progress==
Regions and locations which have been completed as of May 2025 include, [[Minas Tirith]], [[The Shire]], [[Rivendell]], [[Rohan]], [[Lothlórien]], [[Isengard]], [[Dol Amroth]], [[Pelargir]], [[Osgiliath]], [[Paths of the Dead]] and [[Lond Daer|Lond Daer Enedh]]. Currently there are many projects underway. These include, but are not limited to, [[Mordor]], [[Linhir]], [[Gladden Fields]], [[Anórien]], [[Emyn Muil]], and [[Moria]].

==Participation==
[[File:MapMCME.png|left|thumb|MCME's World Map]]
You can participate by, building in a job where you are supervised by a Foreman, building on a plot, or you can practice your building on a biweekly theme plot, using /theme. Additionally you can apply for roles such as Artist, to build more, Guide, to host tours and minigames, and lots more. There are many other background teams that develop and maintain the server. These include, a [https://www.youtube.com/@mcmiddleearth Media] team, a [https://www.mcmiddleearth.com/community/forums/the-mcme-times.102/ monthly magazine] team and RP developers.

At the moment the server is explicitly for [https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Java_Edition Java Edition] and is on version 1.21.4. The server IP is build.mcmiddleearth.com. You do not need any mods to join, simply toggle server resource packs to enabled and there you go!
[https://www.mcmiddleearth.com/ '''''Minecraft Middle Earth'''''] (MCME) is a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft Minecraft] build server recreating the world of J.R.R. Tolkien's [[Middle-earth]]. The map is 29,000 by 30,000 blocks. This makes an area of 870 square kilometers - the same size as Berlin, Dallas, or Fort Worth in Texas!

==History==

==Current Organization==
Other details are added to the world to help explorers feel more immersed. For instance, the project has its own soundtrack, composed by volunteers. Additionally there are tours and minigames each week and many community driven events during the year.

As of 2024, MCME has been presented at the Tolkien Days Convention three times.
Tolkien's [[Middle-earth]]. The map is 29,000 by 30,000 blocks. This makes an area of 870 square kilometers - the same size as Berlin, Dallas, or Fort Worth in Texas!
==History==
Early on, after deliberation by the community, they decided to set the server’s time to 22 September, [[Bilbo's Farewell Party|Bilbo’s 111th birthday]] [[Third Age|T.A.]] [[Third Age 3001|3001]].

==Current Organization==
Other details are added to the world to help explorers feel more immersed. For instance, the project has its own soundtrack, composed by volunteers. Additionally there are tours and minigames each week and many community driven events during the year.

As of 2024, MCME has been presented at the Tolkien Days Convention three times.

==Progress==

==Participation==

Their objective is to build the whole of Middle-earth as a community. Accessibility is also one of their core goals therefore MCME does not use any [https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Mods mods]. Early on, after deliberation by the community, they decided to set the server’s time to 22 September, [[Bilbo's Farewell Party|Bilbo’s 111th birthday]] <nowiki>{{TA|3001}}</nowiki> . Minecraft Middle Earth aims to recreate J.R.R. Tolkien’s world in Minecraft. They do this by organizing themselves in groups, such as Guides, Builders, etc. Comprehensive research is effectuated, which concludes into a planning document that gets posted and updated on the forums. Other details are added to the world to help explorers feel more immersed. For instance, the project has its own soundtrack, composed by volunteers. Additionally there are tours and minigames each week and many community driven events during the year.
'''Goldberry''' was the enigmatic wife of [[Tom Bombadil]].

==History==
[[File:Ted Nasmith - Beyond the Old Forest.jpg|left|175px|thumb|"Beyond the Old Forest" by [[Ted Nasmith]]]]
Although her origins are uncertain, it has been speculated that she is a [[Spirits|river-spirit]] of the river [[Withywindle]]. However, she and Bombadil are enigmas.<ref>{{webcite|articleurl=http://tolkien.slimy.com/essays/Bombadil4Spirits.html|articlename=What is Tom Bombadil? Viable Theories: A Nature Spirit?|author=Steuard Jensen|website=[[Tolkien FAQ]]}}</ref>

According to the [[Buckland]]ish poem ''[[The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (poem)|The Adventures of Tom Bombadil]]'', Goldberry was in the [[Withywindle]] when she pulled Tom by his beard under the [[water-lilies]] out of mischief, but he ordered her to let him free. One day, he came to the [[River-woman]] and asked Goldberry to be his wife, and the creatures of the [[Old Forest]] (the [[badger-folk]] and other animals) attended their wedding.<ref>{{AB|1}}</ref>

In {{TA|3018}} Tom Bombadil travelled to the lower reaches of the Withywindle to gather white water-lilies for her, and it was while returning from a lily-gathering expedition that he discovered [[Frodo Baggins|Frodo]] and his companions, and rescued them from [[Old Man Willow]].<ref>{{FR|I6}}</ref> Goldberry seems to have used her lilies to recreate her original home in the river: when Tom brought the [[Hobbits]] back to his house, they found a seated Goldberry surrounded by water-lilies floating in pots of earthenware.<ref>{{FR|I7}}</ref>

Goldberry welcomed and tended the [[travellers]] to their [[Underhill (house)|home]]. The [[hobbits]] thought of her as a beautiful and calm being, with a beauty resembling an [[Elf]] but less exotic to their hearts. Her voice was described as "the song of a glad water ... coming down like silver". The hobbits would listen to her sing in a voice like rain, and they would imagine rivers and pools.

==Inspiration==
[[Tolkien]] wrote that Goldberry "''represents the actual seasonal changes in [river-lands].''"<ref>{{L|210}}</ref>

In her first appearance in the poem, she is displayed as a typical mischievous water-sprite, responsible for pulling and drowning humans into rivers and lakes.<ref>{{AB|Comm}}</ref>
:Goldberry is present in the final third of the first episode, along with her husband Tom Bombadil. Unlike Tom (played by Milan Lasica), Goldberry has no spoken lines, and she is only heard singing harmoniously as Tom and his four hobbit guests arrive at his house. Her origin however, is greatly elaborated upon: she is a River-maiden, a spirit that watches over the streams and rivers. Goldberry's sisters can be found in the [[Lone-lands]], [[Nenuial]], the [[Gladden]], [[Gilrain]], [[Serni]] and [[Erui]]. Some show themselves openly, others are secretive and only reveal themselves to the Wise and the descendants of the [[Númenóreans]] who had known of River-maidens in the years of old. But some were driven mad by the bloodshed spilled over their waters, or slain and devoured by the servants of the Enemy who then take on their fair appearance.
