I have begun to write something. I do not wish to create my own entirely new world and lore of elven legend and heritage, but do wish to create something uniquely apart from things already done. There are two options as I see it. Either paying homage either to some of the history created by Tolkien, or that of Dungeons and Dragons. I currently favor that of Tolkien. I've been searchingfor a hole, as it were, on which to center my tail. A realm not that of middle earth, but in the same world never the less.

Perhaps a land to the far south?

"Aldarion sailed to Vinyalonde and then followed the coast southward farther than any Numenorean ship had ever gone. On his return journey, he encountered storms and strong winds and was nearly shipwrecked off the coast of Harad. When he reached Vinyalonde he found the haven ruined by the Sea and by hostile Men. His ships were driven back by high winds three times as they tried to turn west toward Numenor. Aldarion's ship was struck by lightning and lost its mast. The ships finally made it back to Numenor in 843."

http://www.tuckborough.net/numenoreans.html#Tar-Aldarion

In skimming the history of the world which Tolkien has created, I would find it hard to believe that the Valar would not know of such a place, by way of never mentioning it. Perhaps, Eru had another thought once the Aniur left for Arda and became the Valar?

Or possibly, I should try to create a new world of my own which would not share any ties to world so beloved. The thought of creating my own history for such a place in not a daunting one, but the idea that I would have to come up with my own elvish language or two is ... all but a nightmare.

Any input into the matter would greatly be appreciated. I would also like to note that, I have never written anything other than for myself, been published, nor have I written anything in a very long time, but I started writing a story for some unknown reason, and I cannot stop.

I would strongly suggest creating your own world; especially if you want to get it published. Also, I believe it's more satisfactory to relise you can invest so much time into something and look at the outcome. I've studied language much, and have created a world of my own, with it's history, language, and such, like a real world or middle earth. [[User:Breragor|A good day to me, is waking up in Middle Earth!]]

Oh the time and task one would endure to create a language structure (not to mention symbols)that is sound in its practice ... fudge. LostWords.
