Ælfwine and Dírhaval is chapter two of Part Three of The War of the Jewels, the eleventh book in The History of Middle-earth. It contains two introductory notes to the Narn i Chîn Húrin that are labeled as "A" and "B".
Synopsis[edit | edit source]
Text A is entitled Túrin Turumsth and it was written in the Minlamed thent/estent verse mode.
Commentary[edit | edit source]
In his introduction to the the text "A", Christopher Tolkien notes that it was "written with almost no hesitations or alterations". In his introduction to text "B", he makes note of it being "very much briefer".[1]
