Arador (S, pron. [ˈarador]; T.A. 2820[1] - 2930,[2] died aged 110) was the fourteenth Chieftain of the Dúnedain.

History

Arador succeeded his father, Argonui, when he died in 2912.[2]

His rule was uneventful except for the fact that he was captured and killed by Hill-trolls of the Coldfells north of Rivendell.[3] He was succeeded by his young son, Arathorn II, in 2930.[2]

Etymology

Arador is a Sindarin name. Its meaning is not glossed, but Paul Strack suggests it means "Noble-lord" and is a compound of the prefix ar(a)- ("noble", "royal", "high") and the lenited form -dor of taur ("lord").[4] The Association Tolkiendil suggests it means "Royal Lord".[5]
