Baravorn is the translation into Sindarin of the name Hamfast. The name appears in the King's Letter (see: Sauron Defeated, p. 121, 126, 129), sent by the King Elessar to master Samwise Gamgee in S.R. 1436. In the letter is mentioned Hamfast Gardner, the son of master Samwise.

The elements of the name are bar 'home' and avorn 'staying, fast'.
