Battle of Tasarinan
From Tolkien Gateway
The Battle of Tasarinan took place in the Land of Willows during the great expedition from Valinor to release the enslaved Gnomes in the Great Lands, according to the early version of the legendarium in The Book of Lost Tales.[1] No full, detailed account of the battle is given, as it is only mentioned passingly in the Lost Tales, and in various outlines for their continuation.
What little is known about it is that:
- The first host from the West, including the Vala Noldorin, as well as the Eldar, including Valwë, father of Lindo the keeper of the Cottage of Lost Play, made camp in the Land of Willows.[2]
- There, "sleeping and dancing", they grew complacent.[3]
- After which they were ambushed and defeated by the goblins sent by Melko.[3]
Yet following the battle (according to some outlines of the story), Noldorin managed to escape (as well as Valwë[note 1][4]), and some time later Melko was defeated by Tulkas in the Battle of the Silent Pools.[2]

Notes
- ↑ We know that Valwë survived the battle, since afterwards he returned to Tol Eressëa and settled there.
