The Elves of Rivendell were, as their name suggests, Elves who dwelt in Rivendell between its founding in the Second Age and abandonment in the early Fourth Age.

History[edit | edit source]

Second Age[edit | edit source]

Previously having been affiliated with either the Elves of Lindon or the Elves of Eregion, the original Elves of Rivendell came together during the War of the Elves and Sauron. Under Elrond, a host marched from Lindon to the help of the Elves of Eregion. However, the forces of Sauron drove this force and an allied host under Celeborn northward. Other survivors of the Sack of Eregion joined them in a dell, where Elrond oversaw the creation of a refuge.

The First Siege of Imladris saw the Elves encircled by a part of the might of Sauron. However, the rest of the firce sent to invade Eriador fell before the combined might of Gil-galad and Tar-Minastir of Númenor. The Elves of Rivendell were then able to march against their beseigers, whom they defeated with the aid of reinforcements sent by Gil-galad.
