Fire and Water is the 14th chapter of The Hobbit.
Summary
This chapter tells the story of the fall of Smaug. In this chapter, a thrush came to Esgaroth and told Bard the Bowman of the open patch in Smaug's armour. Bard used the black arrow to shoot down the dragon. As he was thought to have died in the village, when he returned to his people they were in awe. The people of Esgaroth wished to make Bard the King, but the Master of Lake-town convinced them to turn their anger from him to Thorin and Company. The chapter closes when Thranduil and some of his army came to the people of Lake-town.
