But why would you need a bot? Well, it can do stuff like searching for regular expressions in a list of pages (like "all pages", oder "pages in category XYZ", or page "X", "Y" and "Z") and then edit those pages (i.e. moving all pages from one category to another). In some not that distant future the bot will get an own database and become somewhat more intelligent. But what I really intended to write the bot for was automatic interwiki linking (even though, it turns out the bot is already quite handy with just some basic features).

The framework the bot is built on I wrote on my own (and it's available [http://freifunk-halle.de/~konstantin/rubot/ here]), but works pretty well. --[[User:Penngaladh|Penngaladh]] 05:41, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

Hi! I've written a bot for making life easier over at Ardapedia and I'm hereby asking for permission to place the bot here at Tolkien Gateway, too.

But why would you need a bot? Well, it can do stuff like searching for regular expressions in a list of pages (like "all pages", or "pages in category XYZ", or page "X", "Y" and "Z") and then edit those pages (i.e. moving all pages from one category to another). In some not that distant future the bot will get an own database and become somewhat more intelligent. But what I really intended to write the bot for was automatic interwiki linking (even though, it turns out the bot is already quite handy with just some basic features).

The framework the bot is built on I wrote on my own (and it's available here), but works pretty well. --Penngaladh 05:41, 1 April 2008 (EDT)

Hey there Penngaladh! I've been meaning to get a bot installed and play around with one, as the interwiki linking does seem to be rather tedious. You of course have our permission to use the bot here, as does anyone. As long as it is used to improve the wiki, why not? :) I'll try and think of some other repetitive tasks we could use a bot for. Thanks for your help! --Hyarion 15:12, 1 April 2008 (EDT)
If this is possible, I think it would be a good idea to have a bot that would update pages after an infobox change. Some of the infoboxes have the potential to be changed but have extremely widespread use (such as locations and objects). If we decided to, say, add a field, we would need to update every single one of the pages that include it. With such a bot, it would be a whole lot easier. Of course, that wouldn't mean the field would be filled - just that it would be there so that there is no {{{-}}}. --Narfil Palùrfalas 20:09, 1 April 2008 (EDT)
That should be possible. Sorry, didn't check here since I did a lot of programming and stuff (some bot improvements, more to be expected). BTW: I created an account for the bot, so some admin could set the bot flag. --Penngaladh 01:43, 4 April 2008 (EDT)
