The Gliding Water was the name of a river passing through Kortirion, according to the early version of the legendarium associated with The Book of Lost Tales.[1] It is only mentioned in the poem Kortirion among the Trees.
According to the poem, elms grew about it, and it flowed westward from Kortirion, passing through meadows before reaching the sea.[1]
Inspiration[edit | edit source]
The Gliding Water might have been inspired by the river Avon, which flows through the town of Warwick, the main inspiration behind the city of Kortirion.[2]
Other versions of the legendarium[edit | edit source]
In later reworkings of the poem, the river was called the River Gliding instead.[3]
