Húrin I (Third Age 2124[1] – 2244,[2] aged 120 years) was the fifth Ruling Steward of Gondor.
History[edit | edit source]
Húrin was probably named after Húrin Thalion, one of the heroes of the Edain in the First Age. It was customary in the House of Húrin to name sons after legendary figures.[3]
Húrin was one of the Stewards during the Watchful Peace, when Sauron was in the East and the Nazgûl occupied Minas Morgul.[4]
Húrin ruled as Steward for forty years, and was succeeded by his son, who became Túrin I.[2]
Etymology[edit | edit source]
For the meaning of his name refer to Húrin of Emyn Arnen - Etymology. It is possible that he was named after the hero of the First Age Húrin Thalion or after his ancestor Húrin of Emyn Arnen.
