The name Lúthien refers to more than one character, item or concept. For a list of other meanings, see Lúthien (disambiguation).

Lúthien son of Gelmir was a Gnome, according to the early version of the legendarium in a prose fragment following The Book of Lost Tales.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Gnome Banners by LorenzoCB

After the Gnomes returned to the Great Lands to wage war with Melko, Lúthien led one of the three great armies of his father Gelmir. His standard (banner) was that of a "golden swallow that winged through an azure field as it were the sky set with silver stars", and his army preferred bows over other weapons.[1]

Beyond this point in the story, nothing else is known about him.[2]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

The name Lúthien seems to be in Noldorin, but its meaning is uncertain.
