On 13 January 1960, J.R.R. Tolkien sent a per procuration letter to Elizabeth Jones. The letter was typed and signed by his secretary Elizabeth Lumsden.[1]

[The letter conatains a] printed statement about The Lord of the Rings and a typed paragraph stating that he is "working on a new book which I hope will tell you some of the things you would like to know."
