Also, when the Witch-King is confronting Gandalf, the text says "**The** red fires shone" between crown and shoulders; the word "the" suggests that Tolkien is talking about the fires of the battlefield (which would be behind the Witch-King from Gandalf's point of view), rather than fire being part of the Witch-King's face.
