Noldo is also the name in Quenya of the nineteenth letter of the Tengwar alphabet.[1] It is the third letter of the fifth grade or Tyellë, which contains "nasal" consonants and it is the fifth letter in the third series of consonants. For written Quenya or Sindarin, the third series is used for the k-series, the Calmatéma and this letter represents initial NG or Ŋ. In Westron the third series is used for a variety of consonantal sounds and this letter represents NY.[2] The Westron name for this letter is Nyé.[3]

Etymology

The word derives from the Primitive Quendian root ÑGOL.[4]
