The Oak was one of the most common trees in Middle-earth, found throughout the numerous forests. Thorin II became known as "Oakenshield" when he chopped off a bough of an oak to ward off the blows of enemies in the Battle of Nanduhirion.[1]

1994: Middle-earth Role Playing—Treasures of Middle-earth
- A type of Oak tree, namely Furry Oak, is described in the book. It was named for the fuzz on the underside of its leaves and the caps of acorns. These acorns were well-liked by the Galadhrim and the Woodmen, who used them in baking.[2]
