J.R.R. Tolkien held the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professorship of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Oxford from 1925 to 1945. In this post he was preceded by William Craigie and succeeded by fellow Inkling Charles Leslie Wrenn.

Tolkien's formal letter of application for the Chair was published as Letter 7 in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.
