Ok I find it very interesting that Tolkien eventually settled with we being in the Seventh Age which started with 1 AD. I remember reading an article about the Elvish Linguistic Calendar Spring 2001 - Stirring 2002 from 20 years ago about modernizing the Middle-earth calendars for our era by some Boris Shapiro, and he decided that Tolkien "would agree" that our Age would begin with the birth of Jesus, and that we are about the year 2001 of the Seventh Age.
