Best. Adaptation. Ever. I defy Peter Jackson to do better.-- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  15:35, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We should probably upload some images. Do we need a page on Princess Mika? Growns? Do we even know how to spell those? --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 15:41, 10 January 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'd say yes to Princess Mika. I'm not sure about Growns. --Amroth 10:29, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How do we spell it? Mika? Mieke? And her surname, Nillehammer? Nilnammer? Niwhatever? --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 10:33, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe just The Princess, with a note that we are not sure how to spell her name. --Amroth 11:59, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Director, Gene Deitch, says on his website that she was named after Pete Seeger's eldest daughter, Mika. The Princess's second name, Milovana, means "beloved woman" in Czech. [1] So maybe we can go for "Princess Mika Milovana"? -- KingAragorn  talk  contribs  edits  email  12:28, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, Princess Mika Milovana sounds good. --Amroth 12:56, 2 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Can we confirm that the name of the creatures is actually spelt "Growns"? Otherwise, It could just as easily be spelt "Groens", "Grones", or "Groans". Nonetheless, I think we should give these creatures their own article. We have articles for other non-canon material on the site, so I don't see why we can't include an article for these creatures, especially if you're considering giving Mika an article. 69.210.37.206 22:59, 14 February 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My guess on the spelling would be "groans." Seems appropriate for a monster. The name of the other creatures sounds like "grablins" to me. I don't think another article is necessary. What would we say? The cartoon is very short so there is not much info to include and they are simply stand-ins for Trolls and Goblins anyway. Fredeghar 08:17, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I certainly wouldn't want an article until we can confirm the spelling! --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:31, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, this is a little late, but the proper spelling is indeed "Groans", according to Gene Deitch. I think that it should be enough to provide the creatures with their own article. After all, we provide articles for other non-canon material exclusive to adaptations. And since we've already made that article for Princess Mika Milovana[former link], I don't see why we shouldn't do the same for the Groans, especially since they have many features that deviate them from the Trolls in the book. Bauglir100, do you have a source for that spelling? --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:01, 11 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for that - that's very useful. Unfortunately, Gene Deitch does not support your argument.

Characters were renamed (Trolls became Groans, Goblins = Grablins, Gollum = Guloom) and the dragon Slag (not Smaug) is despatched by Bilbo, the Princess and her retainers.
Gene Deitch

It may be the case that they had features which make them dissimilar to trolls, but if he's saying that they were simply renamed trolls then I don't think they need a separate article. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 09:48, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, even if they were called Trolls, they would have been in-name-only, anyhow. Groans have wooden, bark-like skin and turn into dead trees instead of stone statues when exposed to sunlight. If they can't get their own article, then they should at least get a mention in the "Portrayal in adaptations" section of the Trolls article. Bauglir100 12:53, 17 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
[reset indent] Go ahead. --Ederchil (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 13:08, 17 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, I totally agree that should be mentioned in the PiA section of Trolls. Absolutely they must. --Mith (Talk/Contribs/Edits) 16:28, 17 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
