gwend or gwenn is a Sindarin noun with two meanings:

"bond, friendship". It is related to the verb gwedh, meaning "to bind".
"maiden". Compare with the suffix -wen

Examples:

Arwen = "Noble Maiden"
Morwen = "Dark Maiden"
