rómen is a noun meaning "east" in Quenya.[1]
Rómen is also the name in Quenya of the twenty-fifth letter of the Tengwar alphabet.[1] In all modes this letter represents "full" trilled R, unlike Óre which is used for "weak" untrilled R.[2] Rómen was one of the most widely known and used of all the Tengwar since it indicated "east" even in languages that used a very different term.[1] The Westron name for this letter is Aro.[3]
Etymology
The word derives from the Primitive Quendian root RO+MEN.[4]
Examples
- Rómendacil = "East-victor"
- Rómenna = "Eastward"
