Third Age 1640 (abbreviated to T.A. 1640) is the 1640th year of the Sun of the Third Age of Middle-earth. Third Age 1640 was also known as S.R. 40 in Shire-reckoning.
Notable events in this year include:
- King Tarondor removes the King's House to Minas Anor, and plants a seedling of the White Tree.[1]
- Osgiliath begins to fall into ruin.[1]
- Mordor is left unguarded.[1]
