Letter to Edith Bratt (3 January 1913)
On 3 January 1913, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a letter to Edith Bratt.
- Subject: Tolkien, who commenced the letter at midnight,[note 1] declares that his love for Edith has not changed in the last three years since they were separated and that he is willing to marry her.
- ↑ Tolkien turned 21 years old on 3 January 1913, and was therefore free to again contact Edith, from whom he had been separated by his custodian Father Francis Xavier Morgan.
