I don't quite believe in the translation "Place of Glory". It is true that aglar means both "glory" and "brilliance" (see e.g. Dragon Flame which refers to RGEO, p. 73, Etymologies s.v. AKLA-R- (LR, p. 348), The Silmarillion, "Elements..." s.v. aglar), but what it comes to its appearance in the name Aglarond, I suppose that here aglar should refer to 'brilliance' rather than to 'glory'. Indeed, Scull and Hammond (Reader's Companion, p. 421) mention that 'in the manuscript of Nomenclature Tolkien notes 'aglar "briliance" + rond "vault, high roofed cavern"' ' So, "Glittering Caves" is the very translation of Aglarond. --Tik 05:23, 7 November 2007 (EST)
