thalion is a noun meaning "a person who is steadfast" in Sindarin. Compare with thelion, "resolute, unwavering".
Thalion, "The Steadfast", was the surname given to two characters in Tolkien's legendarium:
- Húrin son of Galdor, the last Lord of Dor-lómin. He was called "The Steadfast" for his unbending will against the tortures of Morgoth
- Mardil Voronwë, the first Ruling Steward of Gondor. He was called "The Steadfast" for preventing civil war by taking up the rulership of Gondor
