Wedmath
| Months in the Shire Calendar |
|---|
Wedmath is the eighth month of the Shire Calendar, following Afterlithe and approximately equivalent to modern August. In fact, it ran from modern 24 July to 22 August in a normal year.[1]
[edit] Etymology
The name represents a modernization of the Old English name for August, Wéodmónaþ, meaning "grass-month" (cf. weed).[2][3]
