The last version of this article indicated that Pengolodh was a lord of Gondolin, fulfilling the same role as that of Penlod in the early story of its Fall. Does anyone know if that's true? I took it out but I would like to know where the editor came up with this idea, and whether it is factual. —Tar-Telperien 05:46, 7 December 2007 (EST)

Remove section "Possible erasure from the legendarium"

Beyond lack of citation, it's plain false that Pengolodh was removed. The character "Pengoloð" is cited multiple times in "Eldarin Hands, Fingers & Numerals" essay written between 1967-1970. Oberiko (talk) 18:37, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I basically agree, and certainly the header on its own can make a reader think Pengoloð was removed from the secondary world entirely. But I think the section-writer's point was really about the erasure of Pengoloð as the conveyer of the Silmarillion to Ælfwine, or as a conveyer of the Silmarillion at all. Does "Eldarin Hands, Fingers & Numerals" allude to Pengoloð being a chronicler of the War of the Jewels, for example? I don't remember.
